What is molybdenum disulfide and should you know about it?
An inorganic compound made of sulfur and molybdenum is known as molybdenum disulfide. MoS ₂ is its chemical formula. It has a layered crystal structure similar to graphite, which gives it some unique properties that might help our engines run longer!
Lubrication: MoS₂ is well-known for its excellent lubricating properties. Its layered structure allows the layers to slide over each other easily, reducing friction and wear. This makes it useful as a dry lubricant in various industrial applications.
High-Temperature Resistance: MoS₂ maintains its lubricating properties even at high temperatures, making it suitable for use in harsh conditions where traditional lubricants might fail.
Adding mos2 to our engines can reduce friction wherever there is metal-to-metal interaction as the mos2 will form a thin layer while travelling with the engine oil.
Traditionally, with high-quality engine oil and regular oil changes, engines can function just fine without all these chemicals. On the other hand, many overestimate the interval between oil changes and fail to change their oil. The old oil may become less viscous and friction inside the engine components may rise, causing the parts to wear down more quickly than usual. Therefore, you can reduce engine wear to a certain extent by adding MoS2.
Numerous people assert that it lengthens the engine's lifespan even if the effects might not be seen right away. After learning about moS2 and reading countless evaluations of the Liquimoly MoS2, I’ve personally used it in my car. Would I advise everyone to do it? Yes and no.
Absolutely in case you overlook your maintenance; no in case you do.
LiquiMoly also has MoS2 for motorcycles called MoS2 shooter it comes in a 20ml tube that can be added to a litre of engine oil. I did get one for my aerox but haven't added it yet as iam still waiting for the next service interval.
