RC Tuned: Stage 2 Polo 1.2TSI
This is a Polo 1.2tsi which has been tuned and modded to its neck! This exact car started its life as a normal family hatch and is now terrorising the streets of Chennai with its loud exhaust and not-so-racy looks!
It was at one of Madras Driven’s Sunday cruises when I saw this red hot polo gt tsi with a distinctive REDSUNS sticker that grabbed my attention. Owned by suriyah this is a Polo 1.2tsi which has been tuned and modded to its neck! This exact car started its life as a normal family hatch and is now terrorising the streets of Chennai with its loud exhaust and not-so-racy looks!
The Build
So the car has a stage 2 ECU AND TCU tune from ‘Venom Performance India’ and produces a claimed 150bhp which is nearly a 50% gain in power compared to a stock car! The air intake is taken care of by an induction kit from MST PERFORMANCE and the air is drawn in through OEM Euro spec air channel. Since the car has a stage 2 tune the catalytic converter has been replaced by a custom decat downpipe which is further connected to a custom 7.5-inch resonator which gives the car a throaty exhaust note.
Suspension
Producing more power is easy but getting all the supporting mods to put the power down is not. The stock suspension is replaced with MTS TECHNIK sports struts and is lowered on COBRA lowering springs by 35mm in the front and 40mm in the back which results in a great stance. The wheels are upsized to 17inchers from the stock 16inchers and the car runs on Michelin ps4’s.
Brakes
The brakes are upgraded as well, the braking duties are now taken care of by Brembo drilled rotors and Brembo extra pads while the calipers are from the Fabia VRS which we never got in India :(
Looks!
This is one area where the car stands out, the red paint with the bronze jäger Dyna wheels looks stellar and is easily recognisable. The car has had a facelift done as this is a 2016 car that came with the old bumper design. The car also features aftermarket side skits which look flush with the body. The interior too has very subtle mods with minor mods like an auto headlamp switch, and a steering wheel with a paddle shifter wrapped in Alcantara.
Once the exhaust is removed, this polo makes an excellent weekend vehicle that can also be utilised in the city. Upgrading your polo will be easy because many after-market parts are available and every tuner has a tune for the EA111 1.2-liter TSI engine. Remember that the vehicle features the well-known DQ 200, which can malfunction with improper care and burn through your finances so badly that you wish you had never bought the car in the first place.
